Hey.  I'm here on my Wii U to let you know that my computer had a hard drive failure.  I'll try my best to check in on the forum from the Wii U, but I'll be mostly gone for about a week.  I might get a new computer and give the old one to my brother, though.  I'd like Elsa to appoint one of the mods as an administrator in my place until I can return.

Sorry to hear, Espie (although, admittedly, my first thought upon reading that was "again?") I wish you a swift return, we will miss you in your absence.

Hard drive failures are the worst! I hope you didn't lose anything important :( Good luck getting it fixed up soon!

Espeon, I have some time on my hands, and would rather not appoint a temporary administrator at the moment. I've always felt it was unfair to leave a moderator with administrator duties, but then strip them of that rank not much later. I will take care of the forum, if it's just for a week. I wish you the best of luck in getting a working computer!

Computer update: Nothing can be recovered from my hard drive.  It'll take at least a week to get the new hard drive in.  There's probably going to be more down-time for me than I originally expected.

Oh no... that's awful :/ I hope you didn't lose anything too valuable.

I'm sure we'll manage not to burn the forum down in your absence, but hopefully you'll be back soon and that installing a new hard drive won't be too frustrating.

I'm pretty much glued to my PC, so I can't imagine being without it for a week or more. Yikes.

I'm the same way, Flyboy.

I hope you can work everything out soon. If you need, I have a lot of friends in the tech field, so I would be happy to describe your situation to them and see if they can help.

Nah, I'm good.  All I need is a new hard drive, which will take a week or more to get in.

That statement inflicted *physical* pain upon my being. If it's any consolation my own laptop just gave up on me and I don't think my files can be recovered, either. We're suffering together friend.

(I have to buy an entire new laptop so it'll take a lot longer for me... at least I have a smart phone and a tablet so I'll still be around at the same frequency. Just means I can't play Steam games, sigh.)

The tablets I've had have broken within a year or so of getting them. My Nexus 7 lasted less than a year before it refused to power on no matter what I did, including changing the plug. I no longer own tablets for this reason.

In the future, you could try getting a Dropbox account and setting it to auto-sync with your particularly important folders, so that you won't lose them if your computer dies again. I use Dropbox and it's been a lifesaver.

I'd be horrified to lose all my files as well, here's hoping it never happens again to you!

This upcoming Christmas will mark my second year having this Kindle, I'm honestly a little impressed it has lasted so long. I don't mind having a tablet but I completely understand why you'd be leery given your experience. I'm really grateful for having gotten mine... simply because it's acting as a replacement for my laptop in the interim. That being said I'd rather have a laptop. There is just so much this thing can't do.
