Rule #6 Edit: System Member Accounts Now Allowed!

Rule #6 has been edited due to popular request. Individual system members are now able to create separate accounts as long as the specifications in Rule #6 are followed. The changes are in bold:

6. There should be ONE account per person. If you are part of a plural system, however, you may create separate accounts for system members. In order to do this, please specify in each system member's that profile that your account is a system account. Any individual system member accounts must be linked to in each system member's account in some fashion. You can link to accounts from your profile signature by typing the name of the account and setting it as a text link.

An example of a system profile layout signature would be like so:

<System Name>: <System Member Account 1 (linked)> / <System Member Account 2 (linked)> / <System Member Account 3 (linked)>

Please include all system member accounts in each system member profile's signature.

If you would like to change your name, you can do so through your account settings. However make sure to put your old username in your signature to avoid potential confusion. Along similar lines, do NOT create an account, delete it, then re-create it again. Failure to follow this rule will eventually result in a warning. After three warnings, is a ban.

Pleased to see this, but it isn't clear what 'linking' to the system account means. Perhaps just specify that this can be as simple as stating the system account name in their profile? Otherwise, I think this is a great change.

I just got back from my Cape May vacation... oh my goodness, thank you so much for finalising this!

So, does this mean that I need to make a 'system account' separate from mine first? Then if Eridan and/or Miles want to, they would make their own accounts and specify in their profile as they sign up that they're linked to the system account? (And then put in a sig link or something?). And, obviously, I'd edit my profile/sig to reflect the link, too.

Is that correct? I just don't want to mess it up, hehe.

I wondered this too. Does it mean the system account only would exist for connecting accounts? I thought I would just link to my related headmates in my profile and vice versa if he ever decided to have him make a account for himself.

I personally think a system account would be less confusing for members outside of the system. However, I am open to discussion of other options.

Well, I figure that as long as everyone in the system links to the others (or lists their usernames or whatever), it should be fine? Having separate system accounts that won't ever actually be used will artificially bump up the member count whilst really just being dormant accounts with no real use. It would probably be pretty easy to whip up a quick Excel document where you could keep tabs of everyone who's in a system. I still don't think that there's gonna be a huge influx. I mean, maybe you could try it with system members just linking internally to each other via their profiles, and see if that works out okay? And if it gets too confusing for you, you could enforce the 'system account' rule. I'm easy-going about however you wanna run it, Elsa.

I think I will leave the rule as is simply to avoid confusion, and since we don't have a large member count so far anyway, it shouldn't be an issue. It is a tough call, though!

Yes, the system account is indeed an index for its members. Also, yes, system introductions are not necessary, unless you would like to do so.

I have a question. Are system members on separate accounts allowed to share journals in the journal/blog section, or would it be preferred we make our own?

Making your own may be best, but if profiles are sufficiently linked, I also don't see an issue with a shared journal.

This may be against you, but the use of dummy profiles as system links is useless....

If you see my example below in my signature, it would appear on my posts and profile page. Everyone will see this. Its simple. O1 will be doing the same to boot.

....So use of a dummy profile as a system directory is useless to me, in my sight. And too, users would need to waste another email account just to make a dummy profile, so it becomes virtual waste....

Oh, this is a relief! I'm glad that we don't need system accounts because I was really fretting about making one. I've never really used the term 'system' for myself, Eridan and Miles, because we've never thought of ourselves as any sort of cohesive unit... and so, while I was fine with making an 'index' account, I had no idea what to call it, given that we don't have a 'system' name.

So, I guess Eridan and/or Miles are free to make their own accounts any time, then, so long as they link to the other two of us somewhere in their sig or profile? Hooray!
